Sani UV-C Submersible In-Tank Water Steriliser

The Sani UV-C Submersible In-Tank Water Steriliser is a premium chemical-free water disinfection solution designed for stored water applications, including water tanks, reservoirs, borehole storage systems and rainwater harvesting setups.

Installed directly inside the tank, the submersible UV-C lamp works by emitting UV-C light into the water volume, helping neutralise bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms without the use of chemicals, ozone or taste-altering additives.

This locally manufactured system is ideal for residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial water storage applications where reliable stored-water hygiene is required.

How It Works

The UV-C lamp is submerged inside the tank and positioned to treat the stored water volume. UV-C light helps disrupt microorganisms in the water, providing ongoing disinfection without adding chemicals to the water supply.

The control box is mounted externally and connected to the submersible lamp using the supplied waterproof connection system. The installation manual specifies that the lamp should be positioned approximately 5cm above the full water level and that the control box should remain visible and accessible for monitoring and maintenance.

Why Choose the Sani UV-C Submersible?

The Sani UV-C Submersible has been manufactured locally and successfully installed for over 10 years. Unlike conventional single-pass UV systems that only treat water as it flows through a chamber, the Sani Submersible is installed directly inside the storage tank.

This unique in-tank design provides significantly longer UV-C exposure time, continuously treating the stored water around the clock. The extended dwell (contact) time enhances the deactivation of bacteria, viruses, algae and other harmful microorganisms, helping maintain safer, cleaner water within the tank.

Ensuring Effective UV-C Water Disinfection

The effectiveness of any UV-C system depends on a few practical factors: your water source, suitable pre-filtration, and adequate UV-C contact time. Understanding these helps you get the best possible performance from your Sani Submersible.

Understanding Your Water Source

Borehole water: Borehole water quality can vary significantly depending on location. A comprehensive water analysis report is recommended to determine the appropriate filtration requirements and identify any contaminants that may need treatment before UV-C disinfection.

Municipal water: Municipal water is generally treated and safe for domestic use. However, additional filtration and UV-C treatment can further improve water quality by reducing residual contaminants, improving taste, and providing an extra layer of protection for drinking water.

Rainwater harvesting: Rainwater collected from rooftops can be an excellent water source. Although typically clean, proper filtration is recommended to remove debris, organic matter and other particulates before UV-C treatment.

The Importance of Filtration

For UV-C technology to perform at its optimum level, water should be filtered to remove suspended particles and impurities. Particulates can shield microorganisms from UV-C exposure, reducing disinfection efficiency. Ideally, water should be filtered down to approximately 0.2 microns where practical, while retaining beneficial dissolved minerals. Proper filtration ensures maximum UV-C penetration throughout the water, allowing effective deactivation of bacteria, viruses, algae and other harmful waterborne pathogens.

Water Usage and UV-C Contact Time

UV-C disinfection relies on adequate contact time between the UV-C light and the water being treated. Properties with high daily water consumption may require additional storage capacity or supplementary UV-C units to ensure consistent disinfection performance. When water is drawn from storage tanks faster than it can be effectively treated, system sizing should be reviewed to match usage demands.

Maximising UV-C Effectiveness

To achieve the best possible results:

  • Identify your water source and test it where necessary.
  • Install suitable pre-filtration to remove particulates.
  • Ensure adequate UV-C exposure time through correct system sizing.
  • Maintain the UV-C lamp according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Regularly inspect filtration components and replace them when required.

When combined with proper filtration and system design, the Sani UV-C Submersible provides an effective, low-maintenance solution for improving water quality and safeguarding stored water supplies.

Maintenance

Routine maintenance is simple. The UV-C lamp should be replaced approximately every 24 months or 9,000 effective operating hours, depending on system usage.

Replacement lamps are available separately for the 40W, 55W and 145W models.

Important Safety Information

UV-C light can be harmful if viewed directly or exposed to skin or eyes. Do not switch the unit on outside the tank. Always disconnect power before installation, inspection or maintenance.

  • Do not power the unit on until fully installed
  • Avoid direct UV exposure to skin and eyes
  • Keep people and animals away from exposed UV-C light
  • Disconnect power before maintenance
  • Installation should be completed by a competent person

Warranty

This Sani UV-C Submersible In-Tank Water Steriliser includes a 12-month warranty.

Replacement lamps are maintenance items and are sold separately.
