All tanks are locally manufactured in South Africa and available for in-store collection at Zisabo Park Rynie, KZN South Coast.

📋 Tank Buying Guide — Choosing the Right Tank Grade, Size & Type

Understanding Tank Grades (SG Rating)

The SG (specific gravity) rating tells you the maximum density of liquid the tank is designed to hold safely. Water has an SG of 1.0. Heavier or more aggressive liquids require a higher-grade tank with thicker walls.

  • Water Grade (SG1.0): For clean water storage only — domestic, rainwater harvesting, irrigation and tank-to-house supply. Do not use for chemicals or liquids with SG above 1.0.
  • Medium Duty (SG1.4): For fertilisers, mild agricultural chemicals and liquids with SG up to 1.4. Available in chemical tank colours.
  • Heavy Duty (SG1.8): For denser chemicals and industrial liquids with SG up to 1.8. Heavier wall construction.
  • Extra Heavy Duty (SG>1.8): For the densest chemical applications exceeding SG1.8. Contact us to confirm suitability for your specific liquid.

Always confirm the SG and chemical compatibility of LDPE with your liquid before ordering a chemical-grade tank.

Vertical vs Horizontal Tanks

  • Vertical tanks have a smaller footprint and are the most common choice for above-ground water storage. Available up to 20 000l.
  • Horizontal tanks offer a lower height profile — suitable for under-deck, under-building, or below-eave installations where vertical clearance is limited. Available up to 5 000l above-ground and 6 000l underground.
  • Underground tanks are Heavy Duty (SG1.8) rated for buried installation where surface space is restricted.

Choosing the Right Capacity

As a rough guide for domestic water storage: a household of 4 uses approximately 600–800 litres per day. A 2 500l tank provides roughly 3–4 days of reserve; a 5 000l tank provides around a week. For farms, irrigation and commercial use, capacity needs vary significantly — contact us with your daily consumption and we'll help you size correctly.

Colour Coding

  • Standard water tank colours: Green, Brown, Beige, Grey
  • Chemical tank colours: Natural (white), Yellow, Light Blue, Light Green
  • Fire tank: Red (dedicated fire reserve)

Colour does not affect the tank's grade or performance — it helps identify the contents and matches common industry conventions.

What to Check Before Ordering

  • Confirm the SG rating required for your liquid
  • Check that LDPE is chemically compatible with your stored liquid
  • Confirm available footprint and height clearance for your chosen size
  • Arrange transport capable of handling the tank dimensions — tanks 2 000l and above require a flatbed or large trailer
  • Collection only — no delivery available on this range
