The 16A Step Relay (also known as an impulse relay or bistable relay) is a DIN rail-mounted switching device that latches on or off with each control pulse – one pulse activates the relay, the next deactivates it. This makes it ideal for corridor and staircase lighting control, multi-point switching, and any application where a load must be toggled from multiple switch positions without wiring returns. Available in 1-module and 2-module widths, with a comprehensive range of contact configurations and coil voltages to suit AC and DC control circuits from 6VDC to 230VAC.

  • Application: Staircase lighting, corridor switching, multi-point control, load toggling
  • Current Rating: 16A
  • Modules: 1-module (compact) and 2-module (extended contact) options
  • Contact Configurations: 1NO+1NC, 2NO, 1CO, 2NO+1NC, 3NO+1NC, 2NO+2NC, 2CO
  • Coil Voltages: 12VAC/6VDC, 24VAC/12VDC, 48VAC/24VDC, 130VAC/48VDC, 230VAC/110VDC
  • Mounting: DIN rail

Key Features

  • Bistable (latching) operation – holds state without continuous coil energisation, saving energy
  • 1-module width for compact single-contact applications; 2-module for multi-pole configurations
  • Wide coil voltage range – compatible with AC and DC control circuits from 6VDC to 230VAC
  • Multiple contact configurations covering NO, NC, and changeover (CO) arrangements
  • 16A rating suitable for lighting circuits, small motors, and general load switching
  • DIN rail mounting – fits standard distribution boards and enclosures
  • Suitable for multi-point switching with standard momentary pushbuttons

Typical Applications

  • Staircase and corridor lighting with single or multi-point pushbutton control
  • Hotel room and common area lighting switching
  • Central ON/OFF control of lighting circuits from multiple locations
  • Low-voltage control system load switching (24V, 48V DC bus systems)
  • Building automation and energy management switching
  • General load toggling in distribution boards and control panels

What's Included

  • 1 x Step Relay in selected configuration and coil voltage

Please note: Pushbuttons, control wiring, DIN rail, and enclosures are not included. For multi-point switching, standard momentary pushbuttons wired in parallel are used with this relay.

Installation & Compatibility Notes

  • Confirm your coil voltage matches your control circuit supply before ordering – AC and DC ratings are different and not interchangeable.
  • Select 1-module for compact single-contact switching; 2-module where multi-pole isolation is required.
  • Use momentary pushbuttons only – do not connect to latching switches as this will continuously energise the coil.
  • Confirm the contact configuration (NO/NC/CO ratio) suits your circuit logic before ordering.
  • Installation should be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician in accordance with SANS 10142.
  • Verify your DIN rail and enclosure have sufficient space for 1 or 2 module width as required.
